Football Feast

There is very little to get excited about in mid-Winter in Boston. Snow storms that blanket the city in cold, pure prettiness become tiresome when your car gets stuck, they don't plow the roads, and rocky ice rinks form on every sidewalk.

Thus, the Super Bowl afforded RTT and I the opportunity to break out of the dreary doldrums and create an artery clogging football feast for, er, two. We spent Sunday producing the beautiful balanced meal of vegetables, onion dip, Chorizo Nachos and M&M cookies seen here.

It will take us until the start of the next football season to recover.

Well Deserved

Yippy Skippy!!! My boys won another Super Bowl title in an exhilirating battle against the Arizona Cardials (though the first 22 minutes were a tad dull). Obviously, it was because I was wearing my #7 jersey...well, and because Santonio Holmes is a rock star.

Thank goodness I was wearing my #7 jersey! Again!! Go Steelers!!!!

Skip's Side Note

I would like to just inform all of you that the Bears lost this past Sunday to Miami (seriously, don't even get me started). I was on a plane for the duration of the game. Coincidence?

I'm going to start a 900-number hotline.

Skip is Magic

Three years of dedicated support for the Steelers (hi, Ben) resulted in a Super Bowl win for them in 2005. It was an almost divine moment. But, like Mary Poppins, my work was complete and I felt moved to support a new team. Ok, so not really a new team, my home team, but still. Whatever. It was time for another semi-struggling organization to feel the warmth of my encouragement, the sound of my screams at Direct Ticket every Sunday, the apparently magic Skip touch.

Since my decision to promote Bears' victories, they have gone 6-0 this season. And, last night was the ultimate proof of my witchcraft. For those of you who missed it, it should have been an easy Monday Night win for the Bears against the Arizona Cardinals. But (in retrospect, because I was tivo-ing the game and not watching it live), Rex struggled to complete a pass and had only thrown for 140-yards by the middle of the 4th quarter, there were almost 4 interceptions, and not one offensive touchdown. The score was 23-10 Cardinals (um, Edgerrin James is kind of good).

This was the point I caught up to the live feed.

And, what do you know? Charles Tillman scores on a fumble, Devin Hester returns for a 83-yards with 2:53 left and then super-kicker (not) Neil Rackers misses the field goal that would have given Arizona the win.

Seriously. I'm scared of my powers.

Skip Loves the Bears

Naturally, I supported my boys, The Steelers, on Thursday night when they crushed Miami without Ben (hi Ben), but I'm also determined to become a more loyal and dedicated Bears fan this season. (I was about 73% last season.) And, judging from Sunday's performance against the Packers, I picked a great season to further my fandom.

The first quarter hinted at what an uninjured Rex Grossman could do for the team especially with the help of Muhsin, Desmond and Bernard. The game got a little sloppy in later quarters but the Bears held their own against an admittedly subpar performance by the Packers and Brett Favre.

Next week, Detroit. We'll see if my screaming reinforcements at the television can drive another team to the Superbowl.

Skip Prays for Ben

Seriously, folks. It was one of the most traumatizing days in my existence when I was informed that my beloved Ben (hi, Ben) had been in a motorcycle accident this morning. I cannot even recount the drop my heart took when I heard the news. I feel ill just thinking about it now.

So far, it looks like he'll survive with some minimal injuries (in the long term) but I'm going to wear my jersey to bed just in case he needs some extra lovin' prayers.

I want to go too!

I have never been to Disneyworld (or the state of Florida for that matter), but after seeing the NFL players practicing the victorious catchphrase during Disney's Super Bowl commercial, I am convinced that I too need a vacation.

And, I think I may love Joey Porter now because of his riveting performance in the hot tub...just kidding (hi, Ben).

Watch it here.

Skip is a Nervous Wreck

This Sunday my boys (hi, Ben) are playing in Super Bowl XL (40) and I can hardly stand the anticipation! For the past week, I must have read or watched every commentary on the game, and with each new insight my heart starts racing with anxiousness and hope. I love it! The Steelers are favored to win, but as much as I want to pre-order my hat and t-shirt, I can't help but think that anything could happen! Eeeks!

As I have reached an emotional saturation point with regard to the outcome of the game (my nerves can't take anymore), I am moving on to researching the operational aspects of the Super Bowl to take my mind off of the actual game. I know, I'm crazy, but who knew that there were 90 miles of cable used for the cameras and microphones? 6 super slo-mo cameras and 29 mobile vehicles and 500 monitors in 'control trucks...?' Oh my!

Super Bowl XL stats.

An Almost Christmas Miracle

Being away from San Francisco for over two weeks has been somewhat frustrating because it makes it very difficult to keep my blog up-to-date. Naturally, I have so many glorious thoughts and opinions to share with the world and so little time (work, work and shopping) and resources (digital camera) with which to do it. Oh, how my fans will suffer without me! Alas, I have to tuck my ideas into a small pocket of my mind for elucidation upon my return.

Fortunately, I can always make time to expound on the triumphs of my most favorite company of men; the Bears. Yesterday, the boys beat the Green Bay Packers (at Lambeau Field) to secure the NFC North title and a first-round bye in the playoffs with the help of a finally-uninjured Rex Grossman and a very unimpressive Packer's defense. May I add that this is the first time in 14 years that the Bears have actually swept Green Bay in a season! This win was surely because I was in Chicago and watching the game in my new Bears jersey.

PS- On Saturday, the Steelers shut-out the Browns in 41-0 victory at Cleveland. Literally, they c-r-e-a-m-e-d them. It was awesome!

PPS- Hi, Ben.

Skip Creates Winners

Yesterday was unlike any other Football Season Sunday in that my two favorite teams, the Chicago Bears (I have to support the hometown boys) and the Pittsburgh Steelers, were playing against each other at Heinz Field. Kyle vs. Ben, Hines vs. Muhsin. This was an unprecedented conflict of interest, which I must say was quickly resolved when the Bears' defense chose to take a vacation, rapidly ending their 8-game winning streak.

I'm fairly positive the Steeler's win was also because I was sporting my Ben jersey and not my Target boys Bears sweatshirt.

Skip's Favorite Colors are Black & Gold

How serendipitous that the same day I discover that Ben Roethlisberger (hi, Ben) has a blog, I receive a magical, marvelous gift from the Steeler's Fan Club. It is brilliant; full of budget-grade pins and pens, pads of paper, cups, and stickers. Honestly, who doesn't love stickers?!?! It even includes a fabulous, handwritten membership card (un-laminated, which conveniently gives me an excuse to fire up the laminating machine).

That the blue-collar roots of this team extend to their fan club just makes them all the more endearing.

I love the Steelers.

Only 13 days until regular season football begins.

and my personal favorite, High School Ben

Oh. My. Ben.

I can hardly contain my elation right now. I think I might twitch out of my seat.

I have just discovered that Ben Roethlisberger has a blog too! He has a dog named Zeus, uses an adorably limited number of words and has what sounds like a mini-crush on Tommy Maddox. I love it!

Forget this blog, I'm a BR-7 girl now.
